Retro' Regatta
Friday, 10 June 2011

Latest speed kitAll Weymouth windsurfers are invited to drag out their old kit and partake in the ‘just for fun’ Retro Regatta and BBQ down at the OTC this Saturday. Tris will be running a series of fun races and maybe an old school longboard freestyle comp. This is also a great opportunity to get Weymouth’s ‘retired’ windsurfers back on the water. We all know people with a few old boards in their garages which haven’t been taken out since Wham were in the charts. Give them a call and get them back out on the water, time to get windsurfing again! See you there this Saturday from 10am. Further details here: http://uk.otc-windsurf.com/news-uk.php

First shortboard, back in the day..

The day also give the opportunity to rub shoulders with the world’s sailing elite. Saturday is Medal Race day for Sail for Gold Regatta. WPNSA will be running a spectator RIB with the aim of taking young locals out onto the water to get up close to the action. Please register quickly on the Skandia Sail For Gold website for their Spectator Day.

If you do so, there is a chance we can get you out on a RIB with WPNSA / RYA to watch the medal race of the RS:X fleet from the water! This is a super rare opportunity, and spaces are limited, but we will try our best to get as many people out there.

Just watched Nick's last race yesterday (Wednesday) on the GPS tracking display...faultless race, in winds gusting 25kts+, and a final leg lead to finish.   That guy is good!!

I had a celebratory day on Wednesday too...upped my mile speed to just under 27 knts (been waiting 2 years to do that), and managed to get 20knts+ for an hours continuous sailing.

(Should add that Pete is managing 30knt+ miles on every windy day!): Portland Pirates results here

Friday, 10 June 2011

There are over one hundred and forty competitors from across the globe competing in the RSX windsurfing classes at this week’s Skandia Sail for Gold Regatta. After light conditions on the first day they have had full breeze for the last couple of days. Following a bit of swimming on Tuesday, Dempo posted two bullets on Wednesday, putting him at the top of the leader board. Bryony has some recovered from two 9ths on the first day and stands at 5th overall in the RSX women’s fleet.  Follow the results here: http://www.skandiasailforgoldregatta.co.uk/Results/results2011.htm
